Located in the Northwest district of Rajasthan,Bikaner, founded by Rao Bika in 1488, is an erstwhile princely state. The princely flag of Bikaner is red and yellow in color.It is the fourth largest city of Rajasthan and is quite famous for its sweets and snacks. Located in the middle of the Thar Desert, Bikaner narrates the tales of the hardships and bravery of the founder ‘Rao Bikaji’. The handicraft industry of Bikaner is constantly flourishing such as Ivory and Lacquer ware articles. The city acquires a yellowish red hue from the presence of red and yellow buildings. Junagarh Fort, built by Rai Singh in 1593, has a 986 mts extended wall with 37 bastions, a moat and two entrances. Situated at 700 feet above sea level, it can be seen from a distance towering over the city. The fort and its palaces are profusely ornamented with magnificent stone carvings. The major structures within the fort include the Anup Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Diwan-e-Khas, Badal Mahal, Phool Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Dungar Mahal, Rang Mahal, and Ganga Mahal. The Chandra Mahal has remarkable frescoes; Phool Mahal has glass work on its walls; and Amnup Mahal is decorated with golden pen works.
Camel Research & Breeding Farom, 08 kms from Bikaner, the governments Camel Research and Breeding Farm is the only one of its kinds in Asia. The farm breeds and trains camels. The center has been identified as one of the important tourist place of Bikaner and is included in the tourist book. The tourist visiting the canter can see the camel of different breeds and their behaviour. A camel museum is available to apprise them of the developmental and research aspects of the camel in the desert ecosystem. Facilities of camel riding, safari and video/photography are available for the visitors.
Camel Milk Parlour is a special attraction because it vendors unique value added camel milk products like ice-cream, hot and cold beverages. Every year thousands of Foreign and Indian Tourists visit the center. The visiting hours for the tourists will be 14.00 hours to 18.30 hours on all days and ticket counter will be open up to 18.00 hours. (Schedule subject to change without any prior information)
